All Welcome
She had told mother Moonwoman @Kukutux of her next move.

She was not yet ready to take company on her walk. This was first a journey of herself.

The taiga was a barren expanse away from the villages and other camps. It was empty beyond the trails of prey, of predator she stayed far from. She found these things did not bother her.

She began to think of names for the caribou she watched most.

She thought of the fine furs they might make. The even finer meat.

the mastiff stared longingly at the grazing herd, remembering every kind of burger, steak and sausage that could be made out of their beef(?).

her mouth watered (more than usual) and her nostrils were full of that musky, warm blend of dirt, flies and musk, inviting her to go on, take a bite out of that big one over there, or the smaller plump one over there. not like it'd be a problem. what were they gonna do with all that swaying flesh anyway?

but - she swatted her mind's snout with a rolled-up newspaper - this needed restraint. smarts. tactics. it would be one thing to fell a big dumb cowdeer, another to drag it back to nah-tea-quick in a good enough state not to offend anyone.

diesel sucked in a string of drool long enough to nearly reach the ground, and got up from the spot she had occupied near the base of a dwarfy hill.

in a stalk which mixed a wolf hunter's and her own swagger, she began circling the far outskirts of the herd, mental faculties whirring in effort to solve this conundrum.

There was a beast.

Large and gnarled at the other edge of her herd. Callyope could not have this. This beast was not of Moonglow or Natigvik. This was not their herd to lure or hunt.

In an unusual display, she moved with confidence and certainty. All of the sharpness of a woman of Moonglow. Prepared to usher off the beast from her herd.

diesel's eyes had glazed over with memory of wrapping paper dripping with burger grease, and she was sharply sucking in excess saliva as she stalked around the perimeter. were it not for a cowdeer quite obviously noticing something and herding away mini versions of itself, she would have been efficiently snuck upon.

blessed beef helped to turn her head, focus her gaze and see a gangly, white thing approaching.

immediately, her mind shot forward a telepathic message; fuck off.

the mastiff's tail raised, and she straightened herself. the wolf seemed here explicitly to start shit, and diesel wouldn't stand for it. not when the cold weather was beginning to cut under her skimpy summer coat.

This would not stand.

Not upon the hunting lands of Natigvik and Moonglow. She would not be intimidated off of what they rightfully shared, what her mother had sent her to search.

She flared like a porcupine.

Then released a loud, long call for those nearby.

Her tail lashed with impatience.

@Kukutux @Aiolos @Kigipigak @Amalia — just a few tags! I know this is an older thread so entirely up to y'all to jump in or not <3

kukutux came at once to the voice of her daughter.

a monster stood near their herd. her hunting-girl stood as warning.

moonwoman bared her teeth and snarled a second toward the creature.

the raw, primal emotion of ah, shit spread across her face like peanut butter on warm toast.

the brat's call unnerved the cowdeer, and diesel watched out the corner of her eye as the herd began to move.

fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.

panic begun to drum on her heart, even before she saw the other paper-white wolf come. when that one bared its teeth, the mastiff knew her options.

she snarled back, meaty tail raised...

...then turned and ran.

fuck this. fucking fuck this.

The monster left.

The herd moved along from all the commotion, but Callyope did not worry of them.

She faced Moonwoman now, eyes shined bright with a fire that had not been present in some time. Longer gone than it should have been.

She sought approval. Words of wisdom. Anything.

kukutux watched but did not pursue.

her daughter burned with a flame she saw as hunter.

moonwoman saw sialuk and herself in the child growing from girl. "we will follow her. we will drive her off."

she set out, a ribbon of white against the terrain.

could be a fade <3

She was happy to follow the trail of her mother.

They would weave across the land like shooting stars, on the tail of the monster. See to it that she did not return for any camps or herds.

Callyope had feverish thoughts all the while.
