Moonspear stars

He had been a good son of Moonspear. Really. Patrolling the borders, watching after the young ones, taking care of his own. . .

He'd done it all.

Tonight, he took a night of rest. Killdeer looked at the stars, perched near the summit of the Moonspear, rapt in the beauty of the heavens.

It seemed. . .brighter. And with more motion. . .? His eyes darted;

Yeah. He wasn't imagining it.

The stars were moving, somewhat.

He thought of howling, but fell silent, selfishly. He wanted to keep it all to himself. The sight of light streaking through the sky—he couldn't give it up. Not yet.

Sialuk found herself back on the spear, belly rounder than when she had left to help Caracal and his wife, Heda. Nightfall came to the earth, and when she set foot upon the lower hills, a strange light flickered overhead. Immediately, dread coursed through the starwoman. She had only one memory of strange lights from above, and it was a memory riddled with pain and heartbreak. When she saw Killdeer standing idly by, Sialuk rushed to him.

Hurry! We must go away from the strange storm! she begged, gesturing eagerly toward Silverlight Terrace.

She howled then for the rest of the pack, beckoning them to evacuate their own safety.

but this was not anger of sedna. the boy who had worn that name was no more. a man of night and shadow had come in his place.

still, the moonwoman watched tensely, and when the skies brightened, she told @Shikoba she would now go.

dread. fear. kukutux forced herself to be calm, and all but succeeded until she heard the frantic voice of her oldest daughter calling out.

the mother returned the howl, climbing moonspear as swiftly as she was able to find sialuk frenzied. "pukak!" she cried, the tones of nurturing calm.

Falling stars streaked through the sky. Set ablaze, shooting off into the void of the night sky. Elentari had heard of the tale of how this mountain was once struck by such a star. Wiping out it's former inhabitants, leaving dark, scarred marks in it's wake.

But this display of stars raining through the sky, she did not fear them. Possibly because of her namesake. Or that she had not been present, back when the tragedy struck. Or maybe her common sense played a role, while she watched. None were close. None struck the earth. 

That made this night no less un-predictable. Sialuk's panicked cry sent her rushing to the side of her lover, to instill calm. Looking slightly less slim than usual, she arrived to find the wise Moonwoman had gotten there first. Doing her duty as any loving mother would with a child's frazzled nerves. Another boy was there too, seemingly transfixed by the display in the sky.

Mothers to be, they carried the future of Moonspear. For the sake of their unborn children, she would air on the side of caution. She nosed under the pale chin of each woman, assuring them and taking comfort. Steely eyes turned towards lower elevation. But here she would wait a moment longer, for others to group with them.

Tullik had been up the mountain when the first streaks crossed the sky.

She was frozen, watching them high up above, her mouth wide. They were certainly pretty, she considered. Then, Sialuk’s panic, rising high into the sky. Tullik’s heart began to hammer against her rib cage. That night of snowfall came to her again, watching the tan of her father vanish into the white. Her chest seized in her panic, and the girl turned, launching back down the mountain the way she had come.

Her legs carried her in blind fervor, drumming the rhythm of a bolting animal. She slipped through the tree line, gasping and burning like the stars high above. It would take her some time, running as she was, but she would eventually show up, sliding to a halt. The girl shook like a baby deer as she gasped for air, looking between those assembled.

She felt the sharp prick of tears at her eyes, and quickly looked away.

The streaking lights were odd, to be sure, but Glaukos was not afraid of them. He watched them while taking a break from his patrol; but when he heard Sialuk call out, he moved promptly to find her.

Her path - and the scents of others - veered away from the village. Glaukos found this especially strange and he became more alert, his defensive instincts piqued.

As soon as he found himself crossing the terrace, he took note of the frantic bodies clustered together and boofed a low sound, drawing close with concern upon his face.

The stars continued to fall.

Well, this. . .he did not expect.

Instead of wonder and awe at the sight above, Sialuk emerged with a cry of alarm, urging him to run. Others began to panic; whether he saw them or felt it in the air, he knew.

It sent frissons up his own spine, and he glanced around before immediately beginning a search for @Fennec, nose lifted in the air as he called for his mother.

Fucking hell. He didn't at all expect this.

She would not take no for an answer, and Sialuk began fleeing toward Moonglow, putting space between Moonspear and herself. It seemed the only logical thing, and she would gather as many as she could to keep them safe.

When morning arrived with no scratch upon the mountain, she would feel safe, but for now, only terror flowed through her veins.

Since joining Moonglow, Chenoa hadn't interacted with other wolves from the pack. She wandered close to the healing den, acquainting herself with the area's plants. The sky started falling. The night's beams of light streaked across the dark sky. Chenoa looked up in awe. She had never seen anything like this. Hearing the evacuation call, she rushed towards her packmates. Something told her that this was not the first time something of this sort had happened here.
