sinew and pelt, dried meat and chunks of frozen flesh, rolled rich bison hide and the glossy furs into which what remained of the herbs had been tucked.

pelts stacked and antlerbone piled as trophy.

a hunting song.

a walking song.

goodbyes said and promises given to visit. moontide would be first beneath her feet when moonglow had settled back in the spine.

sun man and moonmother at the head of their column, both heavy-laden as the frigid plains were carved with their course back for home, and surreptitiously did the duck glance for her moondoe and the man who had come to join them.

her heart grieved in a new way, and she was largely without words upon their journey.

With Dutch's sudden return, Valiant found himself free to return home with Moonglow. It would be only his second time seeing the village, and he shared this with @Minnow while they walked, similarly laden with all they were bringing back with them. He caught Vaire's eye, if he could, and enjoyed the quiet thrill that looking at her had begun to send through him.

Home.

He would do whatever it took to make sure it stuck.

Vairë bundled her children from the camp in teasing snaps and smiles, passing them off to Chickadee when she passed her with a grateful nod. She slung a bundle up onto her narrow shoulders, forcing herself to handle the weight.

Her eyes twisted, alighting on Moonsong’s camp for a second, before shaking herself and padding after the column of wolves moving back to the spine. Her tail curved over her haunches, her footsteps dancing as she moved to stand beside Valiant, walk at his side for a moment of conversation.

Winter cold nipped at her ankles, reminding her that the season, her season, could not be ignored. Soon it would come. But for now, she pushed it off.

Home waited.

several times chickadee looked toward moonsong camp! she glanced frantically for ariadne, who she had not seen since the women's circle.
but there were so many here, and so much to say; there was a lot to do and to pack, and before she knew it she was falling into line with the other moonglow wolves, shouldering a pack and looking around for her mate;
and for ariadne, a last time.
maybe she was already home; and this thought quickened the young woman's steps for home.

cameo!

For now, Seal walked with the Sunshine people. Soon, however, her path would fan away towards Brecheliant and the young woman would continue along as she walked the path of womanhood.

She sang with moonwoman and reflected upon the hunt and her time among the plains. Looking back, she would recognize this event as a pivotal moment in her life. For now, she felt the changes – all of them, no matter how weird – as her mind grew to better grasp the world around her.

She bid them farewell and, with their blessings, traveled east.

Aric stepped into line. His own body burdened with meat and furs. But it was a nice burden. And he felt a oneness with these wilds. No wonder his sister had stayed.

She would walk beside him aways. Then cut east with Seal.

He answere yhe call of song with his own. Voice curling with those already singing.
